Why B Corps Are Best Placed to Lead on Nature
With Suzi Cross (Ecosulis), Angela Moran (Silentnight) & Becky Addison (Seismic)
Summary
CreditNature brought together three leading voices on sustainability and nature recovery to explore what credible nature action looks like under B Lab's new B Corp standards. Edmund Pragnell, Nature Finance Lead at CreditNature, set the scene: nature is no longer optional, and ecosystem degradation has now been classified by the UK government as a threat to national security.
Suzi Cross (Managing Director, Ecosulis and CreditNature Board Member) chaired a candid panel with Angela Moran (ESG Director, Silentnight) and Becky Addison (Sustainability Consultant, Seismic). The conversation explored how biodiversity has moved from an indirect mention to a directly assessed topic within B Corp certification — and what that shift demands of purpose-led businesses.
“We're all in the foothills of our education for nature, biodiversity and ecosystems. The best way to start is by getting started.”

What changed in B Corp certification — and how purpose-led businesses can act on it.
Biodiversity is now directly assessed
B Lab's new standards move from a points system to minimum standards across all topics. Biodiversity is named as a topic for the first time — a clear step change for certification.
Nature needs its own strategy
Carbon and nature are distinct. Strong nature programmes have their own governance, evidence of improvement, and continuity beyond one-off campaigns.
Start with your value chain
Mapping operations and impacts comes before metrics and targets. Visibility is the foundation.
Think in scopes
Angela's framing — site, locality, supply chain — makes nature impact tractable. Start on your doorstep before tackling the elephant of scope three.
Combine assessments
Materiality, stakeholder engagement, environmental and human rights assessments share stakeholders and data. Run them together to cut workload.
Build biodiversity literacy
There is no equivalent yet to the Carbon Literacy Project. Networking, peer learning and external partners fill the gap.
Local matters
Performative offsetting falls short. Investing in nature recovery near where you operate creates evidence, engagement and employee buy-in.
Collaboration is non-negotiable
No business is doing this alone. Consultants, peer networks and local recovery partners are essential to credible delivery.
“The lovely thing about nature is people relate to it. With nature, you really get more hearts and minds involvement.”
