Nature Credits

Not offsets. Not promises. Verified outcomes.

CreditNature's Nature Credits represent real, measured ecosystem recovery – scored across four scientific metrics and independently certified under the Accounting for Nature® Standard. This is what integrity looks like in nature markets.

Why most nature claims don't hold up

The verification problem

Carbon credits and biodiversity net gain units typically rely on projected outcomes – estimates of what might happen, not evidence of what has. When scrutinised by regulators, auditors, or investors, projections alone aren't enough.

Nature Credits are different

Every Nature Credit is issued after a measured improvement in ecosystem condition has been independently verified – not before.

The comparability problem

There is no universal standard for measuring nature. Different schemes use different methodologies, making it impossible to compare claims or benchmark progress across sites, sectors, or portfolios.

Nature Credits solve this

The Ecosystem Condition Index scores every site on a single 0–100 scale, accredited under the Accounting for Nature® Standard – giving investors and regulators a consistent, comparable measure of ecosystem health.

The trust problem

The nature market is young, and buyers are right to be cautious. Without independent accreditation, there is no way to distinguish credible instruments from unsubstantiated claims.

Nature Credits are accredited

CreditNature is the first organisation to issue nature credits under the Accounting for Nature® Standard – the global benchmark for ecosystem condition accounting. Independent verification is not optional; it's how every Nature Credit is made.

Nature Credits: verified units of real recovery

A Nature Credit is not a promise. It is independently verified evidence that ecosystem condition has already improved – measured, certified, and ready for disclosure reporting.

Carbon Credits

Measure one variable: greenhouse gas reductions. Essential for climate strategy, but not designed to capture ecosystem health.

BNG Units

A planning compliance mechanism measuring habitat potential, not verified ecological outcomes. Applies only to development-linked impacts.

Nature Credits

Measure multiple interconnected metrics simultaneously, producing a holistic Ecosystem Condition Index score from 0 to 100. Real ecological recovery, verified.

The Ecosystem Condition Index: one number that tells the whole story

Every Nature Credit is backed by an ECI score – a single 0–100 measure of ecosystem condition, independently accredited under the Accounting for Nature® Standard.

Four scientific metrics capture different dimensions of recovery: landscape connectivity, vegetation diversity, trophic function, and bird trait diversity. Together they produce one composite score – auditable, comparable, and tracked year after year.

Frequently asked questions

How do Nature Credits work?

1. Choose your project
Select from verified nature restoration projects, for example near your operations.

2. Purchase Nature Credits
Buy Nature Credits that fund real restoration activities like rewilding, tree planting, and habitat creation.

3. Track progress
Access our digital platform with real-time monitoring data and visual reports for easy impact communication to key stakeholders.

4. Tell your story with confidence
Use verified impact data for marketing, customer communications and regulatory reports.

How do Nature Credits support CSRD and TNFD reporting?

Nature Credits are verified under the Accounting for Nature® Standard, aligned with UN SEEA. This provides independently verified, standardised evidence that CSRD and TNFD frameworks require.

Can I use Nature Credits alongside carbon credits?

Yes – a portfolio approach is advisable. Carbon credits serve your climate strategy. Nature Credits serve your nature strategy and disclosure requirements. They work best in combination.

What is the difference between a Nature Credit and a Nature Investment Certificate?

A Nature Credit is a verified unit of ecological improvement. A Nature Investment Certificate is a 1-hectare share in a costed programme of restorative land management, granting exclusive benefits and a direct stake from the outset.
